Prepress
Agfa will debut its chemistry-free thermal digital plate, the ThermoFuse-based Azura TS. It features an advanced clean-out system and improved contrast for easier visual inspections and offers higher throughput of up to 50 percent or 100,000 impressions. Agfa’s ThermoFuse technology physically bonds images to the plate without chemical processing.
PlateWriter 2000, an ink-jet system designed for small- to medium-format offset printing, will be shown by Glunz & Jensen. The system jets a Liquid Dot solution onto non-photosensitive aluminium plates. The imaged plates are then manually fed through a finishing unit that dries them and bonds the liquid dots.
Heidelberg will demonstrate Prinect Inpress Control, the in-line color measuring system that won a GATF InterTech Award. Prinect Inpress Control automatically measures and controls color and register on-the-fly, and at any speed. Integrated directly into the press, it measures process colors, spot colors and register in the print control strip.
Quite Software will demonstrate its latest software: Quite Imposing Plus 2.9, which now works with Acrobat 9.0; and Quite HOT Imposing 1.0, which enables OEMs, system integrators and independent vendors to create customized workflows using either Quite Hot Imposing hot folders or command-line tools.
XMPie will introduce PersonalEffect 4.5 software. It features patented “gossiping” technology and supports Xerox specialty imaging technologies, including microtext and fluorescent imaging. It contains analysis and reporting functionality that allows users to track, analyze and refine campaigns in real time.
Offset
Five months after it unveiled the Speedmaster XL 105 with perfecting device at Drupa 2008, Heidelberg will show this Peak Performance Class press in Chicago. It helps boost productivity levels in perfecting mode by up to 40 percent. It also provides all the technical benefits of the straight printing press and integrates perfecting technology in one system that achieves speeds of up to 15,000 sph.
manroland will highlight new features for its InterTech Award-winning Telepresence remote press diagnostic system. Saving lost press time due to unpredictable maintenance problems is no longer an issue with Telepresence’s new predictive Maintenance Manager software and remote trouble shooting capabilities.
The Presstek 52DI and 34DI presses offer a new UV printing capability that combines all the benefits of UV printing with the automated DI press. They enable fast turnaround, short run, high-quality (300 dpi and FM screening) color printing on a range of substrates.
xpedx Printing Technologies will display new prepress, press and post-press equipment, including Ryobi’s new 10-color, three-quarter size press; its new LED-UV curing unit; and its new in-line casting and foiling technology. Ryobi’s new 40? press will also be discussed.
Brandtjen & Kluge will demonstrate its 22x30? EHG Series foil stamping, embossing and diecutting press. Features include a small footprint, the EZ load magazine and a toggle base hoist system.
The 466SDC four-color press with coater, featured in a 20x26? size, is being introduced by Sakurai USA. It is available with a chambered anilox coater from Harris & Bruno.
The Komori Lithrone SX40 press will make its U.S. debut. It features upgrades designed to further improve print quality and job cycle times. With a new maximum running speed of 18,000 sph, automatic plate changing and the new KHS-AI system, job changeover times are reduced by more than 35 percent.
Digital Printing
Xerox will unveil the iGen4, a productive and high-quality cut-sheet digital press. It delivers color quality and advanced automation, which means more “uptime” and 25 percent to 35 percent more productivity.
The full-color Océ ColorStream 10000 toner press will be featured by Océ North America. It can reach five million continuous-feed images a month. Also, the toner and ink-jet Océ ColorWave 600 with Océ CrystalPoint prints wide-format color and black-and-white on lower cost, untreated and recycled paper.
Ricoh will introduce its Pro C900 digital color printer, designed for production printing environments. The device prints black-and-white and color images at 90 ppm and creates high-quality image output at 1,200x1,200 dpi.
InfoPrint Solutions will be showcasing transpromo, print-on-demand and Automated Document Factory (ADF) solutions. Products on display include continuous-form color and monochrome printers, cut-sheet printers and software.
Hewlett-Packard will show the HP Indigo 7000 press. Designed for monthly volumes exceeding one million pages, it offers a higher-break-even point with offset, as well as environmental benefits such as lower electricity consumption and on-press oil recycling. The press prints 120 four-color pages per minute.
Canon USA will show the new 44? imagePROGRAF color production system. It runs a dual-roll configuration with two size rolls, and offers high-capacity ink cartridges that require minimal user intervention. It can print two full-density, A1-sized plots in less than a minute.
Eastman Kodak will introduce the Kodak Flexcel NX digital flexographic system. It provides offset-class, gravure-quality printing on a variety of substrates, including paper, flexible film, foil, and label stock. Printers can achieve resolutions up to 300 lpi.
Xanté will unveil the Ilumina 3D; the large-format PlateMaker 5 XL; major releases of Adobe PDF Print Engine workflows, OpenRIP Symphony and OpenRIP Flexo Professional; and the Ilumina 502 heavy stock, digital color press.
Xeikon–A Punch Graphix Brand will debut the Xeikon 8000 digital color press, designed to provide fast, cost-effective and eco-friendly printing. The press can print true 1,200 dpi at four bits per spot at very high speeds.
The Truepress Jet2500UV wide-format ink-jet press will be featured by Screen (USA). The press prints directly onto thick panels and rolled media up to 1.96? thick and 98.4? wide at up to 726.5 square feet per hour. Features include imaging resolutions up to 1,500 dpi and four process colors.
Two new printers will be featured by Konica Minolta Business Solutions. The bizhub PRO 2500P is a cut-sheet monochrome printer that images both sides of a page simultaneously, and runs at 250 duplex ipm. With new toner, the bizhub PRO C6501 combines fast color speed, media flexibility and output quality with durability and reliability.
Bindery
MBO America will demonstrate its new T 535-EA Efficiency Automatic folder, which is ideal for short runs and multiple changeovers. Features include a 15? color touchscreen, Vario-Control to simplify setup with a visual operator guide and Rapidset automation for buckle plates, fold rollers and slitter shafts.
The new Muller Martini Primera E140 saddle-stitcher features “Magic Wheel” feeder technology, engineered to hold signature tolerances with much better control as well as provide easy inline adjustments. Capable of speeds to 14,000 cph, the Primera E140 offers two levels of automation, fast setups and changeovers and ergonomic design.
The Standard Horizon BQ-270C single-clamp perfect binder has a large, 10.4? color touchscreen and an ergonomically designed digital caliper to measure book thickness and transfer this data to the binder for automatic setup. It will be shown with the Horizon i2i system, a CIP4/JDF-enabled digital workflow.
Vijuk Equipment is introducing the Vijuk-G&K FA 53 folder. It can be equipped with up to 14 plates, to accommodate a variety of standard and complex fold patterns. Setup is quick and easy with its zero-makeready plates and quick caliper-set rollers. The new format folds from 8x8.25? to 20.75x40? sheets.
The 5222 EP is the latest addition to MBM’s Triumph paper cutter line. The 20.5? cutter features a programmable back gauge module with digital display capable of storing 99 programs with up to 99 steps each. It has an adjustable hydraulic clamp.
Duplo USA will highlight a new folding option for the DC-645 slitter/cutter/creaser, extending the in-line capability of the production color finisher. By incorporating folding in the single system operation, printers can now finish digital color applications such as greeting cards, brochures, invitations and more.
Heidelberg’s POLAR P.A.C.E Cutting System won a GATF InterTech Award. P.A.C.E. stands for POLAR Automated Cutting for Efficiency. Through automatic loading, turning, aligning and cutting of paper lifts without manual intervention, it allows for faster throughput with fewer operators.
The Multi-Feeder XL, from Secap, can expand the capability of its SI5400 high-end folder inserter system, offering a solution for large-format media and multiple sheet jobs. It accommodates booklets, flats and inserts up to 0.16? thick.
Rollem International will premier its Rollem Jetstream finishing in-line with an HP Indigo 7000 digital press. Rollem Jetstream accepts a postcard sheet directly from the coating unit of the press. Its new auto-scan applies perfect registration and accuracy to the printed image followed by auto-collation.
The Challenge Machinery Co. will display the new Challenge/Daeho iCUTTER series paper cutter with a CIP4/JDF-compatible, Windows-based 15? color touch-screen display. The heavy-duty cutter has a dual gearbox-driven knife.
Technifold USA will highlight the Multi-Tool Combo Package, which incorporates simultaneous cutting, perforating or creasing in one tool, and in any of seven formats. The Multi-Tool Perf-Cut Package is a smaller version of the Combo Package, which does not include the creasing option.
The WideJet System will be introduced by Kirk-Rudy. The system can print high-quality variable text, graphics, addresses and bar codes on web and sheetfed presses, as well as mail tables at speeds of up to 600 fpm and resolutions of 1,200 dpi. It utilizes HP’s latest print technology.
