The PRINTING United Expo — taking place September 10-12 in Las Vegas — is just around the corner, and attendees are eagerly preparing for days filled with learning, networking, and inspiration. As we approach the Expo, we're excited to present a series of Q&A interviews with attendees. They'll share their reasons for attending the PRINTING United Expo, the knowledge they hope to gain, and what they're most looking forward to at the event.
We recently talked with Josh D. Carlson, technical director at The Villages Entertainment, to learn about his Expo plans.
What made you want to attend this year's Expo?
I’m always searching for ways to add automation or “less hands on” alternatives, whether it be hardware or software for production. Being a one-man shop, I believe this is crucial to success.
If you attended a past Expo, what ideas did you bring home that helped your in-plant?
Using a wider variety of wide-format media for signage as well as finishing options for my toner-based pieces.
What products or services are you most looking forward to seeing?
Duplo (or other manufacturers) collator/saddlestich units as well as cutter/creaser/folding units, which I’m focusing on next.
Why is attending the Expo better than going to a vendor’s demo center to see equipment?
I prefer to see many available options from a variety of manufacturers. I don’t want to be pigeonholed into just one option. Also, being in Central Florida, there aren’t many demo centers available to me.
Is networking with industry peers an important reason for attending the Expo? If so, why?
To a lesser extent, yes. I look forward to sharing the latest happenings in the print world with those that may have more knowledge than I do, as well as possibly sharing some of my own secrets to success.
How do you hope attending will impact your business/career moving forward?
To be better informed in the options I have available to me in my quest for streamlined production. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to find “perfect-fit” solutions that fit into my budget considerations.
