EFI Expands MIS Empire with DiMS! Acquisition
With its acquisition this week of DiMS! organizing print, a developer of MIS/ERP systems for print and packaging companies, EFI continues to extend its reach into the MIS market.
In recent years, EFI has significantly expanded its market share through acquiring other Print MIS companies, and now controls the majority of the market, possibly as high as 70 percent of it.
With this international acquisition, the Netherlands-based DiMS! employees will join the EFI Productivity Software MIS/ERP group. DiMS! offers multi-language, seamlessly integrated MIS/ERP workflow products and serves some of the industry's top European and multinational print and packaging companies.
This acquisition comes on the heels of the May 2013 EFI acquisition of printLEADER, a management information systems provider, based in Palm City, Fla.
One of the few Print MIS companies that has not been acquired by EFI is Avanti Computer Systems, which received a multimillion-dollar investment from Ricoh a little over a year ago.
“It really signals to the marketplace that we’re in it for the long haul—and that we will not be purchased by EFI,” Avanti President and CEO Patrick Bolan said in August of 2013. “This ensures the longevity of the company and the product, which provides security to both our customers and our employees.”
