Matt Richart and Dallas Fowler, owners of Digital EFX Wraps in Louisville Ky., are not shy about using color. “We like to make a visual impact with our wraps,” says Richart. “With today’s digital printing technology and inks, you can hit almost any color.”
Building your brand
In the wraps business since 2004, Richart and Fowler have been on the leading edge of a booming industry. Hard work, attention to detail, and word of mouth referrals have enabled them to secure a steady stream of clients, both commercial and custom.
Thousands of wraps and countless awards later, Digital EFX Wraps is known for its wrap design, quality production, and precision installations. Richart and Fowler also lead Roland’s (Booth 4616) “Born to Wrap” workshops, hands-on training that teach participants everything from wrap design, production, and installation, to operational tips for running a successful vehicle graphics business.
Dedication to quality
Richart and Fowler have always relied on Roland’s printing technology to guarantee consistent, high-quality output. “All vehicle wraps can look good from a distance, but the true measure of a wrap is how it looks up close,” says Richart. “To be successful in this industry, we believe you need to be committed to quality from start to finish.”
Recently, Digital EFX Wraps undertook a wrap of one of their shop vehicles using the Roland TrueVIS VG2 wide-format printer/cutter. With its expanded color gamut and new Orange ink options, the VG2 brought the vibrant design to life.
“The new TR2 inks really make the colors pop,” says Richart. “The wider gamut brings in the full range of oranges and reds.” The wrap, printed on Avery film with a gloss laminate, was demoed this year at the Roland DGA booth at Skills USA in Louisville, Ky.
Richart also appreciates the speed and accuracy of the VG2. “Things like the new FlexFire printheads and reduced drying times really make a difference when your shop is full of vehicles waiting to be wrapped,” he says.
Training the next generation
Along with quality prints, another hallmark of a Digital EFX wrap is the company’s dedication to careful and systematic installation. “When we started out, there were hardly any training resources out there,” says Richart. “We mainly taught ourselves, one vehicle at a time.”
Richart and Fowler now share their hard-won knowledge in training sessions and live demonstrations at conferences like PRINTING United and ISA. Teaching others and seeing their businesses grow is a source of joy for Richart. “It’s great to have been doing this long enough so that some of the people I’ve taught over the years come up to me and tell me how well they are doing.
“The wraps business isn’t slowing down anytime soon. Today’s customers expect more in terms of design, and they want it faster than ever. It’s important to have printing technology that can keep up with the demand.”
