Despite Economy, Printers Pursuing Sustainability
Economic conditions may have bumped environmental concerns from the top of the printing industry's investment objectives, but more than 80 percent of printers surveyed by NAPL’s Printing Economic Research Center (PERC) are either pursuing or soon intend to pursue environmental sustainability measures. This is according to a recently published NAPL White Paper, "Environmental Sustainability: Structural Change or Just a Fad?"
Two-thirds of those surveyed indicated that the current business/financial climate was not causing them to change their environmental initiatives or position and another 17% said they were actually expanding sustainability initiatives. Only 2.4% said they were cutting back on initiatives and 10.8% that they were postponing sustainability plans. “Based on survey results,” concludes the report, “printing companies aren’t significantly altering their stance on environmental sustainability because of weak economic conditions.”
The White Paper, published by NAPL and sponsored by Kodak, is based on an NAPL survey of nearly 175 printers from throughout the United States, representing sales from under $3 million to more than $40 million.
