In his latest blog on IPG's Web site, Tom Tozier proposes that a strong focus on sustainability can help in-plants keep themselves out of the target sights of the cost cutters.
"An operating in-plant plays a critical role in any organization's sustainable efforts," Tozier contends. "You just need to make the higher-ups aware of that."
He cites evidence that companies are not cutting spending on sustainability during the recession, but are instead aggressively pursuing sustainability to put themselves in a position of unique strategic advantage. This is where the in-plant can help, and thus make themselves more valuable to the company's mission.
