Canon Unveils New Headquarters
IPG had an opportunity to tour Canon Americas’ new headquarters facility in Melville, N.Y., recently, along with a handful of other editors and consultants. The new 700,000-square-foot facility, about 35 miles east of Manhattan, joins London and Tokyo as one of Canon’s three worldwide headquarters locations.
Featuring a state-of-the-art showroom for product demonstrations, the five-story facility hosts several environmentally conscious elements including daylight harvesting, drought resistant vegetation and electric vehicle charging stations. The new headquarters consolidates Canon’s multiple locations in Lake Success, N.Y., onto a sprawling 52-acre site that includes walking trails, ponds and eight acres of preserved, open land.
“We designed this building so it’s something we could be proud of,” remarked Seymour Liebman, executive vice president, chief administrative officer and general counsel of Canon U.S.A.
The showroom features Canon products from the many industries Canon serves, such as health care, security and the motion picture industry. On display are samples of Canon cameras through the years. A mixed reality demonstration lets customers use a viewer to inspect objects that aren’t physically present. Canon production printers like the imagePRESS C7010VPS are also on hand, along with wide-format printers like the IPF 8300S.
Joe Adachi, president and CEO of Canon U.S.A., welcomed the dozens of journalists and analysts who made the trip to Long Island, then other Canon executives presented updates on Canon’s direction and strategy, particularly in production print. The acquisition of Océ has driven strong growth and brought Canon into new production print markets, remarked Sam Yoshida vice president and general manager, marketing, Business Imaging Solutions. He said cloud and mobile print solutions are major focuses.
Mal Baboyian, executive vice president of the Large Format Solutions and Production Printing Solutions units, discussed Canon’s efforts to gain more of the $1.8 billion North American large-format market, and Canon’s move into the folding carton market. He also announced the 42˝ Océ ColorWave 900, to be officially introduced at PRINT 13. It offers print speeds of 12˝ per second (12,000 square feet per hour), resolutions of 1,600x1,600 dpi, instant drying and a dual tray, high-capacity stacker, for concurrent printing and unloading.
“The machine never stops, even when you’re unloading work,” remarked Baboyian.
