Though the Océ VarioPrint i300 cut-sheet inkjet press was the highlight of the Canon U.S.A. exhibit at Graph Expo, the company had a lot more technology at its booth, which was the largest exhibit space at Graph Expo 16 (tied with Konica Minolta).
Just announced last week, the new imagePRESS C850 digital color production press drew a large crowd. (It didn't hurt that it was the first machine visitors saw as they stepped onto the show floor.) Designed to provide offset-like image quality through Canon’s Gloss Optimization technology, the press offers a new 190 lpi (lines per inch) dot screen for increased flexibility and optimized quality closer to offset.
By using CV Toner and an advanced image transfer belt, the imagePRESS C850 — along with the other press in the series, the C750 — can print high-quality, consistent output on a variety of media, including textured stocks.
The imagePRESS C850 and C750 devices operate at print speeds of up to 85 and 75 letter-sized pages per minute, respectively, in color and black-and-white. They provide reliable paper feeding with air separation and double sheet detection intended to reduce paper jams and production interruptions. They can handle sheets up to 13x30˝.
The C850 was shown at Graph Expo with a Plockmatic BLM50 production booklet maker, slated for 2017 availability. It can produce square stitched booklets up to 50 pages thick.
Also new from Canon U.S.A. was PRISMAsync Print Server Version 5. This new version provides additional color correction features and workflow integration capabilities that can help improve the productivity of a printing operation. Building upon the success of the PRISMAsync Print Server V4.1, PRISMAsync Print Server Version 5 features a robust set of tools for identifying color issues and helping users produce their preferred color response. Out-of-the-box G7 calibration, an embedded color profiler and expert color optimization can lead to significant time and waste savings in daily operation.
