Bindery Matters
Six-Pocket Stitcher Triples Productivity
LAKEWOOD, OH—With the addition of a Speedmaster XL 75 press to supplement its existing Speedmaster CD 74, Phil Vedda & Sons found its bindery to be overburdoned. To solve this problem, the company recently purchased a six-pocket Heidelberg Stitchmaster ST350. "Because we became so much faster and more productive on the offset side, we had to make sure our bindery could keep up and not turn into a bottleneck," says Jim Vedda, VP of production.
Since installing the ST350, the all-Heidelberg shop has doubled its stitching capacity and more than tripled its productivity. "We've already been able to drum up new business as a result of this installation," explains Vedda.
Print and Mailing Solutions (PAMS) has expanded its co-production capabilities with the installation of three seven-pocket poly-wrapping machines at its Romeoville, IL, facility.

Tom Henry Cards (www.tomhenrycards.com), an online greeting card store, with a location opening in Kissimmee, FL, is now using a Duplo DC-615 slitter/cutter/creaser, along with a new Xerox 700i color press.
Clifton, NJ-based E&M Bindery & Finishing recently installed an Iijima MJ-1040E.s automatic hot foil stamping and diecutting press.
Since installing a new Morgana AutoCreaser Pro 33, SGM Bindery, Baltimore, can now crease documents at 8,500 sheets/hr. for standard creasing, and has adapted its eight- and 16-page folder units (to back up to the creaser) to increase automation.
GlobalSoft Digital Solutions, in Mahwah, NJ, has enhanced its photo book and calendar lines with the addition of new bindery equipment, ranging from Neolt Electro Trim 150s to a new EX 610 dual action puncher. The purchases add to the custom greeting card line the company has in place. PI
