Big Shop Gets Bigger

Spartan's high-volume work is produced on its four Goss webs, which churn out 6 to 8 million fliers a week. Those presses account for 75 percent of the in-plant's annual income, so that is where the department intends to make its largest investment.

Over the next two years, the firm will either add more presses or replace them all with a new configuration. When everything is complete, Spartan Stores could be putting several million dollars into the print shop in presses and physical expansion. And when the time comes, the cooperative plans to look to Heidelberg for help.
