Benny Landa Surprises Attendees of EFI Connect
The biggest surprise at this week's EFI Connect users conference in Las Vegas came right at the beginning of the four-day event. While Guy Gecht, CEO of EFI, was delivering his opening remarks, Benny Landa, chairman and CEO of Landa Corp., joined him on stage to announce a partnership between the companies to develop a digital front end for Landa’s Nanographic Printing solution.
The announcement was made on Tuesday to the approximately 1,500 attendees of the event, which took place at the Wynn Las Vegas. The 15th annual conference—the largest in Connect’s history—featured more than 150 educational sessions, including technical expert training for MIS/ERP workflow, Web-to-print, eCommerce, digital front end print management and inkjet production printing.
The much-talked-about Nanographic technology will reportedly offer offset-quality digital printing in a variety of format sizes and throughput speeds. The Landa DFE will stream jobs at full printing speed for four- to eight-color printing on Nanographic presses and will enable operators to perform last-minute job changes on the press, to proof jobs and to print rush jobs on-the-fly. In addition, it will collect production feedback from the presses and support closed-loop color control and inspection. The Landa DFE will support all job dynamics including static, VDP and EPID (Every Page Is Different) printing.
Landa selected EFI because of its technology leadership and expertise in high-speed digital systems and color and print management. With the new DFE, Landa Nanographic Printing Presses will integrate into a printer’s existing prepress, production, and business management workflow and finishing equipment. The Landa DFE will also ensure consistency, accuracy and compliance to leading color standards. It will enable high-speed, variable-data printing on any off-the-shelf B1 format (41 inch) substrate.
As with current EFI Fiery platforms, the new DFE will integrate with EFI’s industry-leading MIS/ERP systems, as well as with leading third-party prepress and workflow platforms, for streamlined job management and processing. The Landa DFE will enter beta testing as part of the beta installations of the Landa S10 Nanographic Printing Press slated for Q4 of this year.
