But always remember, he urged: FMs are in business to stay in business, and that means putting your in-plant out of business. So beat them at their own game, he said. Sell yourself as the expert in facility management. Create a master plan that includes options for downsizing, closing non-productive operations, joining forces with other operations, upgrading equipment with external financing, marketing and increasing sales through interagency contracts.
