TheCommunity College of Philadelphias in-plant recently replaced its 22-year-old Duplo bookletmaker with a new Duplo System 3500 featuring a two-tower Duplo DSC-200 collator. Its been a big time-saver for the nine-employee in-plant, saving operators from having to manually drop pages into the old one-tower system for books with more pages than the tower could fit.
The in-plant prints a lot of booklets on its HP Indigo 5500, and the new System 3500 has helped the shop be more productive. Its even enabled the operation to bring in some outside work from a non-profit sorority, which ordered a conference booklet. The in-plant could not have handled the job with its old bookletmaker, says Business Services Manager Todge Sutkowski.
Bindery Operator Mike Wimbush likes the fact that book size changes are done automatically on the System 3500. On the old machine, it took him an hour to change the machine manually.
Sutkowski observes that an incoming order for 5,000 orientation booklets took the in-plant three days to bind in the past, when operators had to drop pages manually into the old bookletmaker. He expects this job to be finished easily in just one day now.
